Cosmetic Dentures are removable false teeth which can help you enhance the appearance of your smile and the health of your mouth after tooth loss

A denture is an appliance which is worn to replace lost or missing teeth.  There are generally 2 types of dentures available: a complete denture or partial denture. Complete dentures are used when all teeth are replaced on either the upper or lower jaws. Partial dentures on the other hand are used to fill the space of only one or two missing teeth on either jaw. Dentures used for the bottom jaw are known as lower dentures; while dentures implemented for the top jaw are called upper dentures. Full dentures may be referred to when all teeth from both arches have been lost.

Some of the benefits teeth dentures can offer patients:

• Enhanced facial appearance
Facial muscles may begin to sag without support from a denture. This can make a person look much older than they actually are. Cosmetic Dentures will also dramatically improve the appearance if your smile.

• Improved eating and speaking ability
Teeth dentures may improve your eating and speaking ability – things that people often take for granted until they have lost their natural teeth.

• Maintain Dental Health

Without support from a denture, remaining teeth can begin to shift and move out of alignment – impacting your bite, dental hygiene and immediate dentures may feel awkward or even uncomfortable for a few weeks until you become accustomed to them. A denture can feel loose until the muscles of your cheek and face, learn how to hold them in place. Should your discomfort continue, contact your dentures Dentist as adjustments may need to be made.

If you are looking for a permanent option with more stability, Implant dentures may be an option for you.

My teeth are very sensitive to cold and hot foods and transparent at the edges, especially the front teeth….?

Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , ,

Question by Maximilian Reed: My teeth are very sensitive to cold and hot foods and transparent at the edges, especially the front teeth….?
they also have large gaps between them and generally move when I try to move them with two fingers. Can I have an implant dentist completely remove them all and put in stronger and bigger implants since I can’t bite on anything hard with these “baby teeth” either????? I do have dental insurance, so I assume it should should not be expensive. I also think that cosmetic dentistry could solve the problem but they do not accept delta dental insurance or any dental insurance for that matter
my teeth have stoped growing at very young age due to Huntington’s disease, so WHO THE FUCK WILL GIVE ME TEETH SO I CAN EAT???

Best answer:

Answer by concerned_guy_here
??? Have you been doing the whitening thing too much? That would explain what you are saying in terms of both the sensitivity and the transparency, I think, because you can damage the enamel, which you do NOT want to do.

And you should NOT be “trying to move your teeth with two fingers”–WTF are you thinking??? SHEESH!

If you have poor teeth, you of course need to talk about your issues with an actual dentist, etc.; in the meantime, do NOT screw with your teeth…how do you think that “seeing if they are loose” is somehow going to HELP them??

Please, please use some common sense!
:-(

They are your TEETH and dental health affects your ability to eat, thus your intake of the needed energy in the sort of mix you have to have to be healthy. Don’t screw with them, take care of them!
:-(

Good luck!

The Basics of Cosmetic Dentistry

Cosmetic dentistry is centered on aesthetic improvements for your teeth and smile. From laser teeth whitening to prosthetic implants, many cosmetic dentistry procedures set out not only to improve appearance, but also to restore function. Read on to learn more about the basics of cosmetic dentistry.

Dental Fillings and Cosmetic Dentistry

Once upon a time, there was only one option for fillings: amalgam. The aluminum-looking substance may have restorative benefits, but it’s not very good at being discreet. Fillings are used to prevent further damage and decay in the tooth decay.

Now cosmetic dentistry provides further options for fillings. Porcelain and composite resin emulate the look of natural teeth. These materials can also be used for crowns.

Composite fillings are more expensive than amalgam. Dental insurance is not likely to cover the difference. Amalgam is also reported to last almost twice as long. However, depending on where in the mouth your filling or crown is located, it may be beneficial to choose something that blends with your natural teeth.

The Basics of Cosmetic Dentistry: Dental Bridges and Dental Implants

Keeping your teeth in tact is necessary for the overall health of your mouth. However, when a tooth cannot be salvaged, extraction is necessary. Missing teeth can set the entire mouth off balance, leading to speech problems, TMJ, changes to the bite, periodontal disease and chewing difficulty.

In cosmetic dentistry, dental bridges and dental implants may be used in place of a tooth that is beyond repair. Bridges and implants look and function much better than dentures. Dental implants are made of titanium. Cosmetic surgery is necessary to fasten the implants into the jawbone. The implants behave as a replacement for the root and are capped with the appearance of a natural tooth.

A dental bridge makes use of the teeth right next to the missing tooth. The adjacent teeth are shaped and fitted with a dental bridge, which is essentially a row of crowns. Through a dental bridge, the adjacent teeth act as a support structure for crown placement.

The Basics of Cosmetic Dentistry: Dental Veneers

Dental veneers are a kind of laminating method for improving the exterior appearance of the teeth. Veneers are often made of porcelain, which mirrors the look of a natural tooth. Porcelain veneers are useful for cracks, chips and gaps in the teeth. They can also be used to mask discoloration. Porcelain veneers last a long time and provide aesthetic benefits.

Tooth Whitening and Cosmetic Dentistry

Teeth can get stained for various reasons. Smoking, coffee, tea, wine and bad oral hygiene are all common causes for lackluster teeth. Normal wear and tear is enough for teeth to lose their pearly white appearance eventually.

Cosmetic dentistry provides options for whitening teeth. Tooth whitening not only diminishes stains, it can also lighten your natural tooth color. A number of tooth whitening options are available. Some are more effective than others are.

Cosmetic Dentistry: Tooth Whitening at Home

You can get a tooth whitening system for at-home use from your dentist. A bleaching gel will be prepared and placed inside custom fitted trays. The trays are worn in your mouth at night for about two to three weeks.

There are a number of over-the-counter tooth whitening systems available for at-home use. Over-the-counter kits aren’t nearly as effective as professional kits from your dentist. However, they are less expensive.

Dentistry and Cosmetic Laser Surgery

Cosmetic laser surgery is the most effective method for whitening the teeth. Performed in the doctor’s office, laser whitening consists of applying a bleaching agent and activating it through laser energy. The procedure is especially advantageous for people with sensitive teeth, as sensitivity is not normally a side effect.

During medieval times

In the Middle Ages, local barbers practiced the basics of dentistry as a side benefit for their hair-cutting clients. It was an added bonus often only available to wealthy clients. Theycould go in for a shave and a haircut and get a tooth pulled, all in one sitting. There was no anesthetic in those days, other than alcohol. But once the extraction was done, toothache was gone, a great blessing. Medieval people also used tooth extraction to treat other health problems, and we know now that gum disease can indeed spread throughout the body and cause health problems which don’t at first seem at all related to dental issues.

In a sense, it was quite understandable that barbers would perform dental duties, since they were the ones always equipped with sharp knives and razors.

Eventually the barbers divided themselves into two groups. One group was educated and trained in the surgical techniques necessary to perform more complex operations. The other group specialized in more routine practices of oral hygiene, tooth extraction and bleeding.

Dental Implements

Tooth extraction instruments were developed through the 17th and 18th centuries and were known as dental keys. They looked like door keys, except that the end piece was a pincer, or claw, which was tightened over the tooth. Then the key was twisted to loosen the tooth for extraction. Improvements were made to reduce damage to neighboring teeth, jaw fractures, and gum injuries. In the 19th century, dental keys were replaced with modern forceps. By then too, novocaine was available, and a variety of other anesthetics, including cocaine.

Emergence of Modern Dentistry

The man dubbed “Father of Modern Dentistry is a 17th century French doctor called Pierre Fauchard. He developed artificial teeth and dental fillings, and made the connection between sugar and tooth decay.

The first dental school in the world began in Baltimore, MD in 1840, and the first dental school connected with a university began in 1867 – the Harvard Dental School. In Britain, dentistry was created as a separate profession in 1878, with laws which restricted the terms dentist and dental surgeon to trained and registered practitioners. In 1880, the British Dental Association was formed and did major work in prosecuting illegal “dentists”.

General Dentistry

By the 20th century, general dentistry was an accepted profession in its own right, so that a dentist must graduate from a dental school and earn a licence to practice. There are many professional organizations which dentists join to stay in touch with new ideas and technologies, and in touch with their peers. These organizations, such as the American Dental Association (ADA) and the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry (AACD) support the profession by offering further training, funding research, and enforcing standards for their members.

Today’s Cosmetic Dentistry

Cosmetic dentistry is not typically taught in standard dental schools. A dentist must go on to graduate school to learn the art and science of dental beauty and how it relates to dental health.

What is the very first feature you notice about another person’s face? Often it will be their smile. This outstanding feature, whether for its good or bad qualities, is often the first thing to become etched in the mind, defining that other person.

For this reason, many people try to make their smiles the best they can be and keep their mouths and teeth as healthy as possible. Regular visits to the dentist twice a year are a necessary fact of life in order to maintain a healthy smile.

But today’s cosmetic dentists can offer you much more in the way of improving your smile. They can remove stains, replace, repair, reposition, and reshape teeth, and even staighten crooked or crowded teeth without using braces. Here are some of the other procedures available through today’s cosmetic dentistry.

· Tooth Shaping – Tooth enamel is removed in tiny amounts to improve appearance.

· Porcelain Veneers – custom-made shells are placed over the front of existing teeth to reshape them, hide stains, or give them a straighter look.

· Dental Bonding – Tooth-colored material is applied to improve the appearance of teeth that have spaces between them, are broken, chipped or cracked, or have stains that won’t come off in a tooth whitening procedure.

· Teeth Whitening – A professional-strength whitening agent brightens teeth and removes stains caused by factors such as age, smoking, coffee or black tea.

Today’s cosmetic dentists perform many high-tech dental procedures to help enhance the beauty of your smile. The school of choice for advanced training in cosmetic dentistry is the Las Vegas Institute for Advanced Dental Studies (LVI). So if you would like to improve your smile, and have more reason to smile, choose a dentist who has graduated from LVI.

Dentist Sacramento CA Is a Root Canal be Possible At Pregnancy

It is a good decision to have a root canal surgery performed on you because it helps your teeth to stay put and saves you a lot of agony. But what about a root canal during pregnancy? There are a lot questions asked concerning side effects related to drugs used as this procedures are performed. Most people believe that pregnancy causes a lot of damage to the teeth. When you are pregnant, the truth is, you will not suffer deficiency in calcium. This has been attested by Dental Health Organization.

To have an idea of the tooth structure a series of x-rays may be required so as to make the right assessment. It allows the dentist to work at the exact point where the infection has occurred. Consultation process should be treated with a lot of importance. Pregnant women worry because of the thought of x-rays harming the fetus but this is not true since the x-ray is aimed at the mouth and not the abdomen. Secondly, most dentists will provide pregnant women with an additional lead vest for their peace of mind. High percentage of x-ray should be shielded enough by a single lead vest. Anesthetics and x-ray performed for root canal on pregnant women is controlled and are only focused on the mouth area and not the abdomen. There is nothing wrong in performing a root canal procedure to a pregnant women as long as the dentist is kept aware.

Number one concern with many pregnant women is the chemical composition of the anesthesia used during surgery. Most women fear that the anesthetic may adversely affect the growth of their child. The truth is, most shots are local and your dentist can reduce the amount used. A low quantity of sodium hydrochloride fluid is what is used and this should never harm your baby. In case you swallow the solution that contains sodium hydrochloride, it is 95% water and in no way harmful to the fetus.

The filling material used for the tooth is another good example of root canal chemical. These fillings could have bad smells as well as bad taste. They are just resins and will not do anything to your fetus because they can be treated with laser.

There is some bit of stress that comes with dental surgery which could have some effect on the baby. If you can be able to hold on until you deliver, that is in order.Dental treatment is safe during pregnancy and routine check-ups and cleaning can be extremely beneficial. If you are in a position to hold on till after birth, it will still be alright.

Talk to your dentist about the length of time you will have to wait before a root canal surgery is done. There is a lot of success associated with root canal surgery during pregnancy which are performed under the right conditions. But if you would rather wait until after birth, there is no problem with that just rest assured very few risks are involved.

Are There Gaps in Your Dental Plan Insurance Coverage?

Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , ,

Are There Gaps in Your Dental Plan Insurance Coverage?

Dental treatments and services can be quite expensive, and dental plan insurance and dental discount cards rarely cover the expenses incurred. Depending on the plan you have, sometimes having it costs more than the savings it provides.

How do you determine if your current dental plan insurance is sufficient enough to cover your dental health needs?

Question #1 – Does your dental plan cover general dentistry?

Even though the majority of your dental visits will most likely be to a general dentist, it is not uncommon for dental insurance or dental discount cards to exclude coverage for these visits. These are important visits that prevent more costly care later on, so they are very essential to good oral health care.

These are the visits that cover cleaning, plaque removal, flossing, fillings, and extractions.

Question #2 – Does your dental plan cover orthodontic dentistry?

You have to be very careful when it comes to understanding how your dental plan or dental discount cards work. Many of them are tricky about the coverage they provide.

Some plans do cover orthodontic maintenance sessions. However, they also usually have a clause that excludes the cost of the initial orthodontic procedure, which is most always the one that is the most expensive.

Dental discount cards and dental insurance plans have strict guidelines, exclusions, and inclusions that must be adhered to before expenses are even considered for coverage. One primary concern dental plan insurance programs have is whether the corrective devices such as braces and retainers are necessary for your health and well being.

If the insurance provider determines the orthodontic procedure is more aesthetic than necessary, you can expect them to refuse to reimburse the expenses for the treatment.

Question #3 – Does your dental plan cover endodontic dentistry?

Most dental plan insurance programs cover these procedures because serious teeth diseases can lead to more costly and serious health problems. This includes endodontic treatments that affect your teeth, including the tissue, blood vessels, and nerves.

In specialized areas of the profession, such as endodontic dentistry, procedures and treatments are most always more costly than general dental procedures. It is very common in many insurance plans to find the provider offers only reduced benefits for these expensive specialized procedures.

Question #4 – Does your dental plan cover periodontal procedures?

The bones that serve as the holding area for your teeth are important to your dental health. Periodontal procedures are those that treat diseases that affect these bones and the surrounding gum area. Periodontics, similar to endodontics, is another specialized dentistry branch and the procedures are more expensive than those in general dentistry.

Question #5 – Does your dental plan provide coverage for oral surgery, pedodontics, and prosthodontics?

These procedures are not those you will encounter frequently, but they may become necessary for some people and therefore should be addressed in your dental plan. When wisdom teeth become a problem or reconstructive surgery is required for jaw disorders or implants, you will need this coverage.

Pedodontic dentistry, which deals with children’s teeth, is similar to pediatric dentistry. Prosthodontics is an area of dentistry that involves implants and restorative appliances and devices.

Teeth Care for Kids

Children like adults need to take good care of their teeth too. Children may have milk teeth first but practicing the habit of good oral care is best to start while young. Tooth decay is the most prevalent disease among kids today. It happens when plaques that build up in their teeth combines with sugar of foods they eat. This combination then produces acids that harms teeth and eventually cause tooth decay.

With the children’s need of proper oral care and treatments, there is what you call pediatric dentistry. Pediatric dentistry is a field of dental medicine that specializes in the dental health of children- infants, toddlers and teenagers. These dentists know that treating children’s teeth is different from adults.

Just like other dentists, pediatric dentists also attend four years in dental school. After finishing that four years of general dentistry, they devote another two years of training and study in dealing with infants and children. With this training, dentists will learn techniques to lessen the fear of children in going to a doctor. The training also includes how to make a clinic child friendly and if possible, how to explain to a child the dentist’s equipment.

Pediatric dentists don’t just clean teeth. They also offer pieces of advice for parents who have thumb sucking children. They have fluoride treatments for kids, treatments for gum disease and cavities. Pediatric dentists teach children on how to take good care of their teeth- by brushing, flossing and eating healthy foods.

A Bartlett dentist or your pediatric dentist knows that fluoride is important in making children’s teeth stronger and tougher against harmful elements. Fluoride can prevent tooth decay that is common among children.

With the help of pediatric dentists, children will learn the proper brushing technique. Children can also have dental sealants that will protect the teeth form tooth decay. Flossing will also be learned by children. They will be taught how to hold a dental floss and how to use it. Bartlett dentists are also experts when it comes to teaching things like this to children.

Bartlett pediatric dentistry can make the dental visits of your children happy and comfortable. Dentists in here are trained and knowledgeable in handling even the toughest kid in town.
